End of Gurt Dog Press
Alas, after being a part of Gurt Dog Press for a few years, GDP has decided to close down. You can read their statement on their site here.
At the end of January is when all the books will be removed from their catalogue. Some authors will be rereleasing one way or another, so be sure to check them out to see where their books will go next ♥
The anthology I was in, FOLK TALES FROM THE HINTERLANDS, will also go poof, so if you didn’t have a copy yet: you can still grab one if you’re quick 😊
MY LORD rerelease
While MY LORD will soon be out of print, I’ll be republishing it asap 💪 I’ve been working hard to give it another round of polishing and making some small edits. But also: the new edition will have a brand new cover.
🤫 it’ll also contain a little game at the end 🏰
If you fancy the current cover, better grab it if you don’t have it yet before it goes out of print (if you’re too late, just contact me as I still got several copies and I can sell you one directly—autograph included of course 😉)
~For anyone who can show me they own a copy of the first version, I’ll happily give a free eBook of the new version ♥ Just contact me 😊
Free bookplates
That said, with a new cover will come a new bookplate design. If you got a physical copy of the book, post a photo of it to social media and tag me. I’ll be sending people free signed bookplates as long as I got bookplates to send 😄
Looking for reviewers
For the rerelease I’d love to get some ARCs of the new version out to reviewers. So if you’re one—or know one—let me know and I’ll arrange a copy ♥
~There’s no date set for the rerelease yet but I basically want to do it as soon as possible, and have currently set a hopeful gaze on March 13th.
Art by Holly Bunn
Sticking to the topic of MY LORD, Holly Bunn made this wonderful artwork depicting Meya and Nina sneaking around the castle and going places they shouldn’t…
Queer Indie Awards
I’ve been nominated in the Queer Lit: Speculative category 🤩 You can cast your vote on your favourite indies here.
Voting ends February 27, 2023.
Review:
WITH A VENGEANCE by Freydís Moon
Enby MC, all the complicated feelings about family, and trauma processing 🙌 Not to mention, all the 🔥
TL;DR review:
This book was such a ride (no pun intended) and dealt with so many things in perfect ways. Trauma, coping mechanisms, grief, body dysmorphia, and depression/suicide ideation. And then there's all the demon sex and how well written those sex scenes were. This book has a lot to offer on so many fronts ♥
Longer, more in-depth review:
On trauma and coping mechanisms:
I loved how this book shows that there are various ways for people to cope with sexual trauma and how that's okay--can't hear that enough 🙌 As said in the book's content warnings, it contains "rape fantasy" and it felt really freeing to read that scene as it was so perfectly executed with the consent surrounding it and how it was something that helped Kye regain control--to feel in control--and how that can be a need and how it can help someone process what they've been through. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We all need a demon in our head who can read our thoughts 🙌
On LGBTQ+:
The MC, Kye, is trans/enby and uses they/them pronouns. They have body dysmorphia and I know some people frown on ✨ magic ✨ to help solve that, but WITH A VENGEANCE did this really well and also showed that it ain't a thing you can just *snap* and have it be solved.
There's also the part where Kye needs to process their mother's death and that's... oooh boy 💀 Their mother always kept pushing gender expectations which made Kye run away so coming back to their old home? It's a lot to unpack and process. Very complicated feels but oh so well executed 😩👌
On sex:
The sex scenes with Eli vary greatly in what they are, from brutal to tender, but all very well written with eye for detail--something I really appreciated.
On style:
The book's written in 3rd person from Key's perspective. As Eli speaks in their head, these "thoughts" are shows in bold, making it very clear if Kye is thinking something or if Eli is communicating telepathically.
Also: the paperback is very pretty with graphics for the scene breaks.
Final notes:
Fuck cops (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
^ me several times as I read this book. I was fuming and wanting to scream multiple times because holy hell, the AUDACITY 🤬
So yeah, great book, 10/10, would recommend 😁 Also cos spicy demon sex 🔥 Not to mention the title... the vengeance bits? *chef's kiss* Absolutely delicious.
